A 56+ Year-Old Recipe!
In 1963, my dear father, Mr. M.J. Varino and his good friend and fishing partner, Fr. Sam Polizzi, joined efforts in the fine art of making Italian sausage. Dad eventually developed what has now become our famous family recipe for homemade Italian Sausage. My father was a highly-decorated P-47 Thunderbolt fighter pilot in WWII, a Captain who flew 113 combat missions without ever getting a scratch, his only regret being that he never received the Purple Heart! Upon returning home to Monroe, LA he took over ownership of Rainbow Grocery & Market from his father, Mr. Joe Varino. My weekends and many evenings after school were spent at the family store learning the trade from my father. I give thanks to my wonderful parents for teaching me the Italian tradition of faith in God and love of family and friends.
